Derek Jeter, Yankees End Ugly Negotiations

Derek Jeter and the Yankees finally agreed to new deal for the legendary shortstop, but it didn't come easy.

Along the way, negotiations between Jeter and the Yankees got public and nasty. At one point, the Yankees told Jeter he could test the market if he didn't like what they were offering. Shortly after, co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner said of negotiations with Jeter and Mariano Rivera, also a free agent at the time, "I don't feel we owe anybody anything monetarily. Some of these players are wealthier than their bosses."

Jeter addressed the contentious talks at the press conference announcing his deal.
