Urban Meyer Resigns As Head Coach From Florida Gators, Again

Urban Meyer is turning into Brett Favre.  Okay, well maybe that is an over-exaggeration, but this is his second year running that he has "retired."

Meyer has just finished the regular season with the worst record he has ever had at Florida.  Meyer had issues at the end of last season, having to be hospitalized after the SEC Championship loss to Alabama.

For those who watched closely, Meyer never showed the kind of fire that he had prior to his first resignation from Florida.  He never seemed "in the game."

Many knew this would be a rebuilding year, but no one thought the Gators would drop off this bad.  The loss of Tebow and many other players that are starters across the NFL as rookies, really took its toll on the Gators.  They never really pulled it together and found a flow.  Meyer never got his team on the right track or in the kind of offensive flow that his teams have been known for everywhere he has coached.

Things were different. Meyer's health has not been great.

One thing is for sure. He did what he was hired to do at Florida. Within two years he had one national championship and two years later he captured another one.  He coached Tebow, who is arguably one of the greatest college football players of all time.  He has done more than some coaches do in a full career in just six years at Florida.

Some say that Meyer may be up for the coaching job in Denver because of his link with Tebow.  Will his coaching style fit the NFL? Doubtfully and why Meyer would announce this before the bowl game he plans to coach does not fit this speculation that some have posed.

Now, the major speculation begins for Florida fans as to who will be the next coach at a school that feels like 7-5 is pathetic and takes the Outback Bowl as just another game.

Dan Mullen would be a great fit because he is familiar with the school and loved by the Gator fans, but he is building from nothing already in Starkville and may want to create his own monster in the SEC West rather than going back to Florida.

Whoever takes over will be a championship caliber coach.  Weigh in on who you would like to see coach at Florida.  Who would be a good fit?  Will Meyer come back?
