Yao Ming Has Successful Surgery to Repair Stress Fracture

On Thursday, Houston Rockets center Yao Ming had succesful surgery to fix the stress fracture in his left ankle. An MRI in December revealed the stress fracture which necessitated the surgery. Yao, who leads Western Conference centers in All-Star voting with 754,583 votes, will miss the rest of the season.

"I'd like to thank everyone for their ongoing support," Yao said in a statement released by the Rockets. "I know this will be another long rehab, but I'm looking forward to beginning my recovery. I will use this time to consider all of my options, and will make a decision regarding my career plans as I get closer to the end of my rehab."

The stress fracture was just the latest in a long-line of injuries for the 7-foot-6 center. In December 2005, he had surgery on the big toe of his left foot. He missed 21 games. In April of that same season, surgery on his right foot and put him on the shelf until the start of the 2006-07 season.
