2012 NFL Mock Draft: Todd McShay Says Luke Kuechly to Jaguars at No. 14

2012 NFL Mock Draft Sends Top LB To Jaguars

14th Choice: Jacksonville Jaguars select Marcus Forston, DT, Miami

McShay's McExplanation:

Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College  Kuechly is a high-motor, hardworking linebacker with good football tools and even better mental makeup. His instincts and tackling skills helped him pile up a ridiculous 183 total tackles in 2010.

Look, I'm sure Kuechly is a great prospect and he'll probably have a nice career in the NFL. But this pick is yet another head-scratcher for the Jaguars.

Instead of going after one of the superstar defensive end/pass rushers in this year's draft, they nabbed Blaine Gabbert. Fine. But when you record the second fewest sacks in the NFL and have a pass defense ranked 28th in the NFL, you have to go out and improve the pass rush at some point. And they didn't spend any of their remaining picks on a front seven player.

So while it's commendable that they're looking for a new anchor/quarterback in the middle of their defense, they still don't have enough up front.

And since this year and probably next year's free agency crop of defensive ends is small and the Jags aren't likely to break the bank, I think they have no choice but to take an end here, even if they're reaching a few places.
