Oscar De La Hoya: Former Boxer De La Hoya Blames Cocaine Use for Infidelity

Oscar De La Hoya Says Drugs Led to Marital Troubles

Retired boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya reportedly first entered drug rehabilitation over the weekend to seek treatment for alcohol and drug use, specifically cocaine, per TMZ.

According to TMZ:

Oscar voluntarily checked himself into a treatment facility in California for substance abuse issues a few weeks ago. Oscar has told friends he does not believe he hit bottom, but checked himself into rehab before things got totally out of control. As one source put it ... Oscar has had fidelity issues and it seems to correlate with substance abuse ... and that's a matter he's dealing with in rehab.

Although it's a good sign that De La Hoya is acknowledging that he needs help, the report that he's using his cocaine use as an excuse for his unfaithfulness just doesn't sound right.

If he cheated on his wife, Millie Corretjer, whom he has a son with, the blame should fall on no one but himself.

Not the drugs.

He may not be the first athlete to ever cheat on his spouse.  But using the "drugs made me do it" excuse is just a plain cop out.

If De La Hoya expects to come out a better man after rehab, he needs to realize that he needs to acknowledge he wronged his wife and family because of his own selfish actions and no one else's.
