2011 Kentucky Derby Sees Archarcharch Stuck With Unfavorable Start
Drawing No. 1 has not been a good recipe for finishing No. 1 at the Kentucky Derby. Just one horse has taken the race after starting from the front rail position.
Archarcharch will look to buck that trend this evening. The 10:1 shot comes in off a victory thanks to a solid performance in the Arkansas Derby.

Archarcharch seems especially ill-suited to winning from a post position in the front of the pack. His biggest problems have come when, as in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes, he overextends himself early and runs out of steam by the end of the race.
With several fast starters in the field (a group headlined by Soldat), jockey Jon Court will have to make sure Archarcharch doesn?t run himself right out of contention in the early stages. Court has been aboard for all six of the colt?s races this season, so he should be well prepared for Archarcharch?s tendencies.
If Court can keep things under control early, Archarcharch could surprise, but he faces an uphill battle if he?s going to emerge the winner this evening.
