Juggled Lineup Jump-Starts Georgetown, Shakes Up St. John's

WASHINGTON -- The three guards Georgetown relies on so heavily played much better Wednesday night against St. John's than they had three weeks ago in their first meeting. But it wasn't Austin Freeman, Chris Wright and Jason Clark who made the biggest difference from the Red Storm's surprising win at Madison Square Garden.

This time it was a contribution from a reserve who only just became a reserve. Coming off the bench for the first time this season, forward Hollis Thompson lit a fire under the Hoyas, with 15 points, six rebounds and energetic defense. The entire team, coming off of a rare eight-day break in the schedule, rediscovered its shooting and aggressiveness Wednesday, smothering St. John's over the final five minutes of the first half, holding off all its second-half surges, and rolling to a 77-52 rout, Georgetown's most impressive Big East victory so far. The No. 21 Hoyas improved to 15-5 and 4-4.
