2011 NFL Mock Draft: San Diego Chargers Set Their Sights on Nate Solder

Philip Rivers Will Feel Much Safer Knowing Nate Solder Is Watching His Back

If the San Diego Chargers had played up to their capabilities in 2010, there?s no way they find themselves with a draft pick as high as No. 18. To be fair, they did have to deal with their fair share of injuries. But so did the Green Bay Packers, and I don?t hear them whining.

In any case, short of maybe a wide receiver, the Bolts really don?t have that many holes to address. With no worthy receivers being available by the time their No. 18 pick rolls around, my guess is that they?ll look to add some protection for Philip Rivers instead. If so, Colorado offensive tackle Nate Solder is the man for the job.

The first thing one notices about Solder is his sheer size. He stands tall at 6?8? and he tips the scales at close to 320 pounds. Somehow, he still managed to pace all offensive tackles at the Combine with a 40 time of 5.05.

If I?m Rivers, I really can?t ask for much more.
