UFC 128 Results: Time to Retire Mirko, the Game Has Passed You by

Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic has been a deadly staple in the heavyweight division of MMA for some time now.

The man whose most famous quote is, "Right leg hospital, left leg cemetery," has now reached that point every athlete eventually hits, the time to retire.

Tonight, Cro Cop lost on a devastating blow by Brendan Schaub and ended up on the mat looking at the ceiling. Then with one extra punch, a legendary career was finished.

Cro Cop has now lost three of his last fights, and his last two fights have been knockout losses.

The 36-year-old Croatian is known for his devastating knockout power, especially in his legs. Twenty of Cro Cop's 27 wins have come via knockout.

He cemented himself in MMA history in 2006 by winning the Pride Openweight Grand Prix. On the road to the finals, Cro Cop beat the likes of Ikuhisa Minowa, Hidehiko Yoshida, Wanderlei Silva and Josh Barnett to obtain the title.

But since that tournament victory, Cro Cop has only come close to a title fight once. A loss to Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 70 eliminated him from the UFC heavyweight title contention. Also, since that tournament final win against Barnett, Cro Cop is 6-5 with one no contest.

Now, Cro Cop stands as a stepping stone to younger fighters, or basically a rebound fight for fighters looking to get their career back on track.

Schaub now has one big quality win over a former big name in the UFC. Cro Cop deserves more respect than that. Instead of sticking around and being that stepping stone or rebound fighter, he should retire.

Cro Cop has had one great career, but it's time to call it quits. Cro Cop has nothing left to prove, like his former Pride contemporary, Fedor Emilianenko, he's too small to compete at heavyweight and just isn't the same Cro Cop that stormed the MMA scene in 2006.

It's the sad truth, but it's time for the great kickboxing Cro Cop to hang up those gloves and ride off into the sunset as an MMA legend.
