Kevin Durant: Why Durant Needs to Dominate in Game 3

Kevin Durant Must Improve Play For Oklahoma City Thunder to Win Game 3

Kevin Durant played a phenomenal game one against the Dallas Mavericks where he put up 40 points after getting to the line 19 times.  His effort went in vain as he was out-dueled by Dirk Nowitzki and his 48 points and 24 free throw attempts.

In game two, he was outscored again by Nowitzki 29 to 24 and Dirk even took six less field goal attempts.

He still obviously has a phenomenal game two, just ask Brendan Heywood.

Durant has been the NBA's leading scorer the past two seasons, but it doesn't look like he's going to be able to outscore Nowitzki this series.  Dirk has just been on a tear this post-season averaging 28.5 points a game on a mind-numbing 53 percent shooting.  53 percent would be good for a big man scoring on put-backs and post moves, but Nowitzki is doing that on mid-range jump shots with a hand in his face.

Unfortunately for Durant, the Thunder's bench isn't going to put up 50 points a game regularly.  He's played well, but he's going to not only have to compete with matching Dirk's numbers on the offensive end, but he has to at least slow him down on defense.

He doesn't have to outscore him.  If Durant is able to lessen Nowitzki's incredible scoring efficiency which no one has been able to do this entire post-season, then dominance would be an appropriate word to describe that type of play.
