Suzann Pettersen is unquestionably one of the LPGA Tour's best players. The Rolex Rankings—the comprehensive world rankings system for women's golf—offers proof, listing her at No. 3 in the world.
But what she's lacked in tournament victories over the past couple years, she's made up for with enough top 10 finishes (34) to give her a seemingly permanent spot on each event's leader board. And the aforementioned impressive world ranking.
Pettersen rolled to an impressive five wins in 2007, but had since managed just one victory to her credit since—the Canadian Women's Open 20 months ago in September 2009.
She has come close with a dozen second place finishes. But today, Norway's Pettersen got back in the winner's circle, beating Cristie Kerr 1-up to win the Sybase Match Play Championship.
"This one tastes great!" Pettersen said on her official website. "Big week and win. Yes!"
The big week found Pettersen battling not only her opponents, but also the flu. Nevertheless, she managed to defeat top-seeded Korean Na Yeon Choi 4 and 2 in the semi-finals this morning before winning over Kerr in the afternoon.
Pettersen had previously defeated Natalie Gulbis, Amy Hung, Stacy Lewis and Yani Tseng en route to the victory.
If this return to her winning ways sets off a string of titles like she experienced four years ago, Pettersen will have to be considered the best in the world.
