2011 NBA Draft Class Has Its Share of PF Prospects With Scoring Punch
As much abuse as Chris Bosh took in his first year with the Miami Heat, he also showed how valuable it can be to have a power forward who can create matchup problems with his jump shot. For teams looking to acquire their own version, the 2011 draft has its share of options.
The most prominent forward with a game similar to Bosh?s is presumptive No. 2 pick Derrick Williams. The Arizona forward is a little more physical than Bosh (and will probably block more shots at the NBA level), but has Bosh?s agility and finesse along with impressive shooting range.
Kansas standout Marcus Morris appears to be moving in the same direction. Like Williams, he touts himself as more of a small forward than a power forward, and while his jump shot isn?t quite as polished he is certainly more effective right now as a scoring threat than a rebounder.
Perhaps the most comparable prospect to Bosh, though, is one who?s likely to last until late in the first round: Georgia?s Trey Thompkins. He?s not as strong a finisher as Bosh, but plays a similar offensive style, trying to outmaneuver rather than outmuscle opposing forwards.
Of course, these rookies will have to wait a while before they can be overpaid in full Chris Bosh style.
