In a preliminary bout at UFC 131, Joey "The Mexicutioner" Beltran (13-5) and Aaron Rosa (16-4) put on one of the best brawls of 2011.
Both Beltran and Rosa came into the fight willing to stand with the other, and both put on tough performances.
Beltran, who was coming off two straight losses, was looking to avoid a third and possibly the pink slip from the UFC.
Rosa, on the other hand, was riding a four-fight win streak and looking to get a win in his UFC debut.
After being separated from a clinch against the cage in the opening of the first round, both men swung at each other wildly. The crazy exchanges continued throughout the first round with Beltran mixing it up with wild punches and leg kicks.
Their second round saw more crazy exchanges with neither man going down. After more good exchanges, both accidentally kneed the other in the groin. And both times the hurt man came back more aggressive.
After more wild back and forth action, Beltran pressed Rosa into the cage, hitting him after the bell went off.
In the third round Beltran got the best of Rosa.
After stuffing a takedown from Rosa, Beltran went on the assault, getting Rosa to the ground and ending the fight with hard hammerfists.
Both fighters fought their butts off. Beltran got a much needed win and Rose showed a lot of heart.
It was not pretty or technical, but it was one entertaining fight.
