2011 NFL Draft: Indianapolis Colts Will Go the Conventional Route

Offensive Tackle Only One Piece For The Colts To Upgrade  Puzzle

Both Todd McShay and Don Banks see Indianapolis taking the same player, Colorado's Nate Solder, to fill the need at left tackle.

Certainly that's the wise move and doesn't seem likely to blow up in their face.

But they are more than a tweak or two away from being able to continue their dominance of the AFC South.

They still need another running back--they won't dare spend another late first rounder (Joseph Addai, Donald Brown) on that spot, however--and shold look for one in the later rounds.

And  with all the the recent injuries to Blair White, Pierre Garcon, and Anthony Gonzalez, it's a good bet that they'll look for another young pass catcher in the second or third round.

The secondary is also in need of an upgrade. They've let go of Bob Sanders and Ken Hamlin is a free agent. With Antoine Bethea locked up to a long term deal, they'll want to find a nice cheaper option in the draft.

Finally, don't completely count out the possibility that the Colts nab one of the "winner" quarterbacks in the later rounds as a possibly future option to succeed Peyton Manning.

Curtis Painter doesn't seem likely to be that guy. But someone with tons of experience in big games, Andy Dalton, Ricky Stanzi, or even Greg McElroy would make a lot of sense.

Manning isn't going anywhere, and he probably has five more excellent seasons remaining. But they should keep shopping for other backup plans.
