Bernard Hopkins will avenge the rematch fight against Jean Pascal, May 21, in Montreal with a win in Pascal's own backyard, and he said so.
"I said to him that once I kick his (butt) in Montreal, he's gonna move," Hopkins said. "He's gonna move back somewhere where he came from. I think it's Haiti. They need him back there, seriously. So he can get back to Haiti and represent Haiti. He cannot walk in Montreal after May 21."
That was a bold statement Hopkins made on the HBO boxing special, "Face Off." There was Max Kellerman sitting at one end of the small square table between Pascal and Hopkins, who sat across from each other.
Pascal wants Hopkins to stop crying like a baby. Hopkins complained that he was ahead of their last fight that ended in a draw. Hopkins is trying to become the oldest boxer to win a title. He is 46 years old. George Foreman, at 45, is the oldest to ever win a championship.
Hopkins called Pascal a "coward" and a "fool" because Pascal thought he should've kept silent and took the verdict like a man. Pascal actually respected the decision and was cool with the draw.
"Did you just hear what this idiot just said?" Hopkins said. "He just said that it's not about the W."
"It's not all about the W," Pascal shot back.
Then Hopkins said, "Are you crazy? What do you think I'm doing this for? It's not about the W to you?"
Actually, Hopkins thought he was robbed of the win. The two knockdowns hurt Hopkins' chances for a victory. Pascal won the first four rounds of their fight and was ahead by six points. The "Executioner" said he dominated the rest of the 12-round fight. He called Pascal a "four-round fighter."
Kellerman accused Hopkins of picking and choosing his opponents to fight. Hopkins sat back 16 months to wait for his crack at a quality fighter like Pascal. Other fighters wanted a piece of the Executioner, but he wanted to look good against a young lion.
Many boxing fans were surprised that Hopkins was knocked down for the first time in almost 20 years. Hopkins bounced back from the KD and said he had Pascal running from the fourth round on like Marvin Hagler did when he chased Thomas Hearns around the ring.
Pascal, at 28, guarantees that he will finish off the old man in their rematch in Montreal. Hopkins plans to carry out his mission of making boxing history that will be the topic of conversation for many years to come. They will be fighting for the Ring, WBO and IBF title belts.
Hopkins was so disappointed in that decision that he refused to give up his belts as it was reported. It gives him something to look at when he wakes up to train. Most boxing expert pick Hopkins to beat Pascal May 21. With a trainer like Naazim Richardson, there must be gold at the end of the rainbow. Richardson struck out with Shane Mosley, but he might hit the jackpot with Hopkins.
