2011 NFL Draft Grades: Will Prince Amukamara Lead Giants Back to NFC East Title?

2011 NFL Draft Grades Make Redskins Class Valedictorian

Grades:

Cowboys: B

Redskins: A

Eagles: B

Giants: B-

Under Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen the Redskins completed one of the best hauls in this year's draft. They added four very promising skill position players--wide receivers Niles Paul and Leonard Hankerson and running backs Roy Helu and Evan Royster--expect the offense to make major strides. The defense was even more woeful in 2010, and while Ryan Kerrigan and Jarvis Jenkins will each have an impact--opening things up even more for Brian Orakpo. But there are still holes in that secondary.

The same is true for the Eagles: they really must like their chances of getting Nnamdi Asomugha in free agency. Adding safety and Jaiquawn Jarrett and corner Curtis Marsh were nice but I don't think they are NFL ready at this point. On the other side of the ball, new guard Danny Watkins is, but I still would have liked to see them land another tackle to protect Michael Vick. Should they end up dealing Kevin Kolb and Vick isn't 100% healthy, the best they can hope for is a wild car.

Tom Coughlin's Giants weren't in need of a huge game changer on either side of the ball, but Marvin Austin and Prince Amukamara will stabilize a defense that struggled down the stretch. The pick that could have the most impact is wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan from Troy. If the Giants lose Steve Smith to free agency or there is any left over problems from his knee surgery, he has the speed to keep the Giants offense potent.

Now all the Giants have to do is avoid another December collapse, which I think could happen given they have two games with the Cowboys in the final four weeks. Dallas landed a great player in Tyron Smith, who probably won't play right away, but I really like Bruce Carter as a backer in that new Rob Ryan defense. And--if they end up parting with Marion Barber--a Felix Jones-Tashard Choice-DeMarco Murray is extremely talented. That additional offense would let them compete against any team in a shootout.
