The New York Islanders won their third game in a row Sunday night, and much of the credit for these three wins can be given to goalie Dwayne Roloson.
Roloson, or who many Islanders fans refer to as "Roli the Goalie", has been phenomenal in net for the Isles. In the three wins Roloson has allowed just a goal each game. He has saved 106 of the 109 shots he has faced.
Roloson does not make the spectacular athletic saves that Rick DiPietro makes, mainly because Roloson is so experienced that he has mastered the art of goalie positioning.
With DiPietro's knees hurting yet again, the 41-year-old Roloson has had a chance to fill in, and has dominated.
Roloson had lost the prior 12 games until this recent hot streak, but this losing streak was no indication of how Roloson was playing.
You will not see Roloson at the top of any statistical lists, but anyone who has watched him play knows that he has kept the Islanders in many games that they had no right to be in.
Other Notes From the Three Game Win Streak:
- Josh Bailey has come back strong, scoring two goals against the Devils and having multiple opportunities in the other two games.
- Jack Capuano has been taking less traditional timeouts of late, in terms of when he calls them. Most coaches save the timeout to draw up a final play with 30 seconds left, Capuano has been using them in the second period. Against Montreal this worked great, as the Habs were really buzzing until Capuano took the timeout.
-Winning two games in a row by comfortable margins should make for an interesting match-up with their cross-town rival New York Rangers. If the Islanders can extend their streak to four, things may not be so bad on the Island after all.
