Heat Downplaying Importance of Christmas Showdown With Lakers

PHOENIX -- The Heat were preparing for a nationally televised contest against the Suns on Thursday, but all anyone was interested in talking about was the Lakers. As in, the two-time defending NBA champions, who Miami has a date with in Los Angeles on Dec. 25.

"First of all, we will take care of tonight," LeBron James promised, before beginning to answer questions about Saturday's epic matchup. He delivered, too. On a night when Dwyane Wade sat out with a sore knee, James poured in 36 points and led his team to a relatively easy 95-83 win over Phoenix.

Then, almost immediately, the focus shifted to the team's next game in Los Angeles. But while the Heat are looking forward to the challenge of playing the Lakers -- in a game that has all of the requisite hype that we've come to expect from the NBA's marquee Christmas Day event -- they are also making it clear that whatever the result, it will have no more than a single game's impact on the team's regular season.
