Every actor has to recreate themselves, in a sense, when they are playing a character. Bryan Cranston has a bit more experience at that then most. On 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC), Cranston talked about his character arc on 'Breaking Bad,' and transitioning from that character, a meth dealer/cancer patient, to playing Julia Roberts' husband in 'Larry Crowne.'Playing Walter White is the big challenge, according to Cranston -- going from "Mr. Chips to Scarface," as his showrunner likes to say. "This is a show that's attempting to do something that's never been done in the history of television," he said. "And that's starting a character out as one type of person and over the course of the series, he's completely changed."
And if you're wondering, Cranston said there will be no going back. "There's no redemption for him," he said.
When Cranston got the call for 'Larry Crowne,' he was still in full Walter White mode, and thought he looked more like Roberts' father than her husband. He was afraid the audience wouldn't think they belonged together, so he plunged himself into a massive makeover and exercise program, which he found surprisingly enjoyable. "I had a mani-pedi," he said. "It was fantastic."
