Tottenham have found themselves at the center of plenty of transfer rumours that they want absolutely no part of during the first month of the summer transfer window. With Luka Modric suddenly becoming a hot transfer commodity in the early portion of the summer (despite no indication from Spurs that they wanted to do any kind of deal involving the 25-year-old midfield maestro), Harry Redknapp has been forced to laugh off any kind of offers coming in from all interested parties, and repeatedly saying that the Serbian wasn't for sale.
Fortunately, after a meeting with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, Modric's agent, Nikky Vuksan, made an effort to bring an end to the discussion once and for all, according to a Mirror Football report.
Per Vuksan's statements:
"I don?t think Luka will hand in a transfer request," said Vuksan. "We don?t want to fight the club.
?He will honour his contract and do his best, as always. But Luka wants to play in the Champions League and win trophies.
?The only official offer so far is from Chelsea, but we haven?t talked to clubs.?
That should pretty much end any and all debate about Modric's hopes of leaving White Hart Lane this season. While he wants to play in the Champions League, the fact is that Spurs really weren't that far off the pace this season, doomed to the Europa League by a dismal end to the year.
In fact, Modric's chances of leaving Spurs this summer were always thin, as the club had no plans on dealing their dynamic midfielder at any point. Sure, Chelsea made a bid, but at this point, is there an elite midfielder that the Blues haven't bid on this summer?
While Modric would have thrived at Stamford Bridge, the talent is still in place for another solid run by Spurs next season. They're in need of striker help, and perhaps a bit of depth on defense and in goal, but they're fully capable of contending in the Premiership.
In the end, Spurs should be thankful that Modric's agent has put this speculation to rest once and for all. It had to be getting tiring to laugh at all those potential offers, and now they can go back to finding strikers who actually know how to score goals for next season, while Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United can go back to targeting midfielders they actually have a chance of landing.
