MLB Trade Rumors: Will Chicago Cubs Send Aramis Ramirez to a Contender?

The Chicago Cubs aren't going anywhere this season. They are currently 12 games out of first place in the National League Central, and this isn't a team capable of an amazing comeback.

Gordon Wiitenmyer of the Sun-Times says that General Manager Jim Hendry is already listening to calls from other teams interested in his players. He knows that his Cubs are don't this season, and moving some big contract players would be smart.

One player in particular is Aramis Ramirez, who is hitting .298 with 15 home runs and 51 RBI. Will the Cubs trade him to a contender? Or will they hold onto the veteran third baseman?

Temas such as Angels, while the Giants, Braves and Diamondbacks have shown interest in Ramirez according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. He says the Angeles are the team most intrigued by acquiring Ramirez.

The Angeles are one game out of first place in the American League West. If they want to push past the Texas Rangers, then making a deal for Ramirez would be a wise move.

However, according to Buster Olney, a high-ranking official told him the Angeles have not discussed trading for Ramirez.

Even if the Angeles aren't going to get Ramirez, some team will. There are so many close races in Major League Baseball right now that obtaining a veteran hitter like Ramirez would be a smart move.

With Chipper Jones out for the time being, and the uncertainites of Martin Prado, the Atlanta Braves may take the risk of trading for Ramirez. They did so last year by acquiring Derek Lee, and it helped a little bit. The Braves are fine just the way they are, but I understand the need for wanting another hitter.

Ramirez still has some life left in him, and there a plenty of teams that need help.Whether they're a club suffering from injuries, or they just need another hitter, Ramirez will find a new home before the July 31 trade deadline.
