NFL Draft 2011: Power Ranking the Last 10 Mr. Irrelevants

Do you remember when you were younger and the kids in your neighborhood got together to play a game of football?

There were two captains, and whoever picked the right number got the first draft pick.  After that, each captain would go back and forth picking the kids they wanted on their team.  There was also that was kid that was always picked last.

That kid was Mr. Irrelevant.

Mr. Irrelevant heard 253 names called before his own.  Mr. Irrelevant had to wait three days to be drafted.  However, just like that kid that was always picked last, Mr. Irrelevant has the chance to play the game he loves.

Here is a ranking of the last 10 Mr. Irrelevants drafted.  Congratulations on being drafted in the NFL draft.

NFL Draft Grades 2011: Green Bay Packers Final Draft Grades

Well, the draft is finally over.

It was an intense three days filled with speculation and surprises, but now the season must go on.

The Green Bay Packers came into the draft looking to fill a few holes in an already impressive roster.  They knew they wouldn't be getting the top talent in the draft, but no one doubted Ted Thompson's ability to find quality players with whatever pick he had.  Thompson truly is one of the best in the business.

The Packers made a bunch of trades in the later rounds of the draft.  However, we won't be grading that aspect of the draft, just the players that the Packers drafted.

Here is a look at the Green Bay Packers final 2011 NFL Draft grades for the players they picked.

Miami Heat's LeBron James secures minority share in Liverpool

? Liverpool regard partnership as key to expanding their brand
? Basketball player is excited over affiliation to club

The basketball star LeBron James has secured a minority stake in Liverpool after cutting a deal with the club's US owner.

Fenway Sports Group, which also owns baseball's Boston Red Sox, has struck an agreement with James's sports-marketing firm, LRMR Branding & Marketing, to be the representative for the controversial Miami Heat player around the world. In return James will become a minority owner in Liverpool. He said he was "excited to be affiliated with this incredible organisation" and looked forward to donning a red shirt and visiting Anfield.

"The first time I stepped on an NBA [National Basketball Association] court I became a businessman," James, 26, told the Wall Street Journal. "This is a great opportunity for me."

Liverpool regard the partnership as key to expanding their brand. The chairman, Tom Werner, said: "There are very few athletes who can match his global reach, appeal and iconic status ... We feel the business opportunities for both working and being identified together in emerging international markets will result in unforeseen opportunities that neither would have been able to realise alone."

In a statement Fenway said it would "aggressively explore global business opportunities for LRMR and LeBron James, future business, marketing, endorsement and philanthropic endeavors all over the globe".

LRMR's chief executive, Maverick Carter, a high-school team-mate of James, said partnering with Fenway would open up international business opportunities for the athlete.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed but Fenway is expected to earn a small commission on deals it does on James's behalf. The 26-year-old is one of the richest sportsmen in the world, earning $15.8m (9.7m) from the Miami Heat and an estimated $30m a year from endorsements with companies including McDonald's, Nike, Bubbilicious and Coca-Cola.

A true rags to riches story, James was born in Akron, Ohio in 1984. His mother raised him on her own after his ex-convict father left them. Nicknamed "King James" while still in high school, James got his first Nike endorsement before he turned professional.

But James attracted some heat of his own last year after his controversial decision to quit the Cleveland Cavaliers. The move was announced in an hour-long TV show called "The Decision" and his former team were told minutes before the show was aired. Cleveland's owner, Dan Gilbert, called James' decision "selfish", "heartless", "callous" and a "cowardly betrayal". The move was also criticised by NBA commissioner David Stern. "I think that LeBron is a really good guy and he's going to be a great player and I don't think that this particular production showcased him to the best of our abilities," Stern said.

2011 NFL Draft Grades: 49ers Hardly Need Another Project in Colin Kaepernick

2011 NFL Draft Grades are in for San Francisco 49ers Draft Pick of Colin Kaepernick

2011 NFL Draft Grades are here for you 49ers fans. Let me start by saying that I am not in love with the proud 49ers organization taking a project arm in Colin Kaepernick.

This is a team that needs a quarterback as close to game ready as possible. They have a couple of arms right now that are still trying to figure out how to play the NFL game. I have no confidence in Troy Smith or Alex Smith.

MUST READ: 2011 NFL Draft Grades: Report Cards for the First Three Rounds

This pick reeks of the 49ers looking to free agency to take a quarterback for the next couple of seasons. As it is, they can't take the field with the type of talent they have at QB. Kaepernick is a long way away from commanding an NFL style offense.

With Ryan Mallett on the board, the Niners took a guy that can't run a prototypical offense. If you think Tim Tebow had question marks, watch out. Kaepernick is a fine talent that I am confident can fit in somewhere.

I just don't think it was on this team. I worry that he will be forced out much too soon. He needs time to mature, and the 49ers don't have a reliable quarterback to allow for that.

The New Jersey Nets star on the NBA coming to London, reading Harry Potter and his favourite pasta shape

Welcome to London, Devin ... It's a pleasure to be here.

Yeah, maybe for you. Have you had a good look around? Not so much. I saw Big Ben, and I think we drove past Buckingham Palace yesterday, but that was as much as I've got to see. I've had a good look around my hotel.

But the good news is you'll be back in March, and actually playing some basketball ... Yeah, I'm really looking forward to it. The crowds here are great. We played here two years ago against Miami and the crowd was amazing then. I watch a little bit of football on TV so I know a little bit what to expect from you guys.

Do you think Britain is ready to become a nation of basketballaholics? I do think it could take off. People are curious enough, and I think it's popular enough already.

Are we more likely to fall for basketball than you are to take up football? I think it's even. America already loves soccer. A lot of my friends played it when they were kids.

So you'll be back here regularly from now on? I think that's the trend they're trying to start ? to follow in the NFL's footsteps, have two different teams play here every year, try to globalise the game. When you see it up close and personal as opposed to on TV, it's got more of an effect.

Will the rest of Europe/the world get a visit too, or is it a special treat just for us? I think the goal is for it to go to other European cities. It's sort of a test run here and then it can expand. I think pretty soon you'll see every NBA team play at least two games a season overseas.

Won't they miss you back in wherever-it-is-you-play? I don't think so. We're moving to a new building and a new city ? they haven't had us for that long so I don't think they'll miss us for a couple of days.

The last time you were here, some English bloke took the mickey out of you on a practise court and the video went viral. Some people thought it was all a set-up arranged by Adidas. What's the truth? I believe it was arranged. Still, I let him get past me too easily and the video was a bit embarrassing. I learned a valuable lesson. Actually I ran into his brother yesterday ? he did an interview with me. We're trying to set up a rematch right now ? I think I'll take that one a little bit more seriously.

And what ? other than revenge ? are your goals for the season? For the team, the target's always to get into the play-offs. Me, I'm trying to get into my all-star form that I had two years ago.

Your other famous moment was a 47-foot buzzer-beater last year that is now known as "the Harris Heave". Do you practise that kind of stuff? Not really, that's just down to instinct.

So if you tried that shot 10 times, how many would go in? I'd say out of 10 I'd hit at least three.

That's pretty good going. Who'd get more, though? Who's the best basketball player in the entire world? Got to be Kobe Bryant. He's been up there a while now.

Enough about basketball, what was the last concert you went to? I believe the last one I went to was Alicia Keys, but I go to a fair amount. I'm going to see Eminem and Jay-Z play together at Yankee Stadium next week.

And what was the last thing you saw at the cinema? I just went to see Inception the other day. It was pretty good, but I hear it's better the second time around so I might have to see it again.

Do you read much? Is there a book you could recommend to Small Talk's avid readership? The last book I read was the last Harry Potter. I think you guys have all read it already.

You've got a pretty intricate tattoo going on down your arm. What's that of exactly? That's kind of my conscience. It's just there with me, all the time. I wouldn't say I designed it but I had a hand in it, me and the tattoo artist himself.

Cheese or chocolate? Well, I'm from Wisconsin so I've got to say cheese.

Why's that? Because Wisconsin is pretty famous for its cheese.

No it isn't. Small Talk has never heard of cheese from Wisconsin? It's true. I think Wisconsin cheddar's the big one.

What's your favourite pasta shape? I like Fettucini Alfredo, so it's fettucini, right?

Fettucini, you say. An intriguing choice. And who would win a fight between a lion and a tiger? A lion ? he's the king of the jungle.

A popular yet considered answer. I'd better give you a little time for souvenir shopping before you head home. Thanks Small Talk. I'll get a souvenir if I can find one.

Good luck Devin, bye! Bye!

Could Sony TV Rescue 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live'?

All My Children, One Life to LiveThe latest soap-related Internet rumors say that Sony Television is interested in buying axed ABC sudsers 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live' and will find new homes for them both domestically and internationally. Sony certainly knows soaps -- the company partially owns both 'The Young and the Restless' and 'Days of Our Lives.'

But is there any truth to buzz? Actors from the two ABC soaps began posting cryptic messages on their Facebook pages saying that they were hearing some "interesting" things, presumably related to the fates of their shows, earlier in the week.

The speculation hasn't gone viral yet, but it's appeared on some message boards, including ones at Soap Central.

LeBron James calls for patience after Miami Heat lose season opener

? Expensively assembled side go down 88-80 to Boston Celtics
? Coach Erik Spoelstra: 'There's no reason to panic right now'

LeBron James has asked for patience after the Boston Celtics spoiled the opening act of his latest NBA title challenge by beating the Miami Heat 88-80 in their much-anticipated season opener last night.

"It's a feel-out process," said James, who scored 31 points but had eight turnovers in the game, played in front of a sold-out raucous crowd. "When you have so many options it's something I'm not accustomed to, having that many threats out on the court at the same time."

The two-times league MVP, who played seven seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and his fellow free agent Chris Bosh signed for Miami in the off-season, joining the perennial All-Star Dwyane Wade in southern Florida. With so much talent, they will be loved at home, vilified on the road, and on television as much as possible.

"We've played in hostile environments before, so that's respect," said Wade, who misfired on 12 of 16 shots against the Celtics and had six turnovers. The seven-year NBA veteran said the Heat have to "get used to playing with each other and get used to the attention this team is going to have on them".

Bosh was just as ineffective as Wade, making only three of 11 shots while creating little of the inside presence the Heat are going to need if they are to challenge for the title.

"We know what's going on," Bosh said. "We know that a lot of people are watching. We know a lot of people are really putting us under the microscope. We know that. It's evident. You turn on the TV, you see what's going on, you see what people are talking about. That's a part of the game. That's what it is.

"We knew it was going to be like that. Dealing with it is another thing. But at the end of the day, it's going to be here, it's not going anywhere. We just have to settle down."

The Heat coach, Erik Spoelstra, said over-eagerness by his players had counted against them. "There's no reason to panic right now," he said. "We knew this would be a little bit of a process, and this is the first step."

NFL Draft 2011: Who the Cleveland Browns Should Target on Draft Day 3

It has been a productive two days for the Browns. On day one they traded with the Falcons to solidify some excellent options for building over the next two years.

Then in a move that surprised very few, the Browns used their first two picks to shore up their non-existent defensive line and still managed to pick up a receiver with the potential to become a No. 1 receiving threat late in the second. A very good two days all in all.

Now it is time to turn our attention to the last day of the draft, where Tom Heckert will truly earn his paycheck. Finding late-round gold can be the difference between actual contention and simply fielding a 53-man roster every Sunday.

Here is a look at some of the top options still available to the Browns on Day 3:

Brandon Burton (CB, Utah)—Burton is one of the last cornerbacks on the board with the potential to become a true starter. If the Browns do not pull the trigger on him, they will be looking at cornerbacks who will only be able to cover the slot in nickel and dime packages.

Quan Sturdivant (LB, North Carolina)—With nice athleticism, ability to read plays, and sure tackling, Sturdivant could become a starting linebacker in the NFL. He probably would not be available this low if he had not missed five games with a hamstring injury last season.

Marcus Cannon (OL, Mountain West)—I think the chance for the Browns to find a starting right tackle has come and gone. That is not to say Cannon will never be that guy; he has unique speed and agility for a man his size. But it is more likely Cannon becomes a guard at the next level with the ability to kick out if needed. By picking Cannon the Browns would get some insurance behind injury-prone Pashos while picking up a guard to replace Steinbach when age finally catches up with him.

Edmund Gates (WR, Abilene Christian)—It is highly unlikely the Browns would pick receivers back to back, but Gates would provide Cleveland with the one thing they did not get by drafting Greg Little: deep-threat speed. A complete cleaning of house might not be out of the question.

Ricky Stanzi (QB, Iowa)—If the number one question about your starting quarterback is his arm strength, it could not hurt to have a prototypically sized quarterback who was the leader of his team and showed steady improvement over his career waiting in the wings.

Robert Sands (FS, West Virginia)—At 6’4”, 217 lbs. this guy is a beast of a safety. He has great awareness and play making ability. His height will count against him one on one with a shifty slot receiver, but has a ton of potential.

Bilal Powell (RB, Louisville)—Great acceleration, good hands, and elusive in the open field. Would make an excellent third down option and insurance policy behind Hillis and Hardesty.

Sam Acho (DE, Texas)—A very long shot considering the Browns already picked up their rush end. But with some people grading Acho as a second round prospect, he should be in consideration if you believe in best player available.

Greg Romeus (DE, Pitt) – A boom or bust selection. Looked to be a first-round talent after being named the Big East’s 2009 Defensive Player of the Year until injuries ruined his senior season. He would make a great power end option across from Sheard in what would be quite the reunion.

I am sure there are more. Let us know who you think should be on the Brown's radar.

NFL Draft 2011: 3 Picks Sure to Surprise on Day 3

Let’s face it. No matter how many mock drafts we make or how much research we do, only the NFL general managers know exactly what they are thinking.

No NFL draft would be complete without a few surprises, and 2011 looks to be no exception.

With several teams making unexpected trades, the later rounds on Saturday look to be filled with some teams ready to make a few interesting and surprising picks. While nothing is guaranteed, these three players are sure to get a good look from several teams before the draft is over.

David Mims, OT Virginia Union

While not invited to the NFL combine, David Mims has popped up on the radar of several teams after his pro day.

Mims is the prototypical project player. His size and athletic prowess make him a very good run blocker. A raw player, Mims is unlikely to make an immediate impact on any NFL team. He has several bad habits that teams will need to break him of for him to succeed at the next level.

He does, however, show a natural athletic ability that could make him a successful lineman in the NFL

Mims is definitely a draft possibility, have worked out with the Chiefs, Ravens, and Lions before the draft. When the seventh round rolls around, there is a good chance one of these teams will take on this project.

Josh Portis, QB California of Pennsylvania

Josh Portis was talented enough to earn a scholarship to Division I schools.

Eventually ending up at California of Pennsylvania, Portis threw for an impressive 69 touchdowns in his last two seasons. A quarterback with a strong arm, Portis also has the ability to tuck the ball and run when needed.

A major concern involving Portis would be possible character issues. While at Maryland, he was suspended for cheating on a quiz in class, but much more seriously, Portis was arrested last year for trying to use a stolen credit card.

The way quarterbacks have been drafted this year, though, a team like the Washington Redskins could be tempted to take a risk on a quarterback with a tremendous upside.

Marc Schiechl, DE Colorado School of Mines

Marc Schiechl may not be a household name and his college may be obscure, but Schiechl is undoubtedly talented.

At the Colorado School of Mines, Schiechl sat the NCAA Division II record for sacks as well as ranking fourth in tackles for a loss.

Although he lined up at defensive end throughout his college career, his size would be a huge liability at the defensive end position.

Schiechl looks to be more suited for an outside linebacker slot in the NFL. His stats are far too good to ignore for many teams and there is a good chance that a team will take a gamble on Schiechl in the seventh round.

When the 2011 NFL draft is over and done, do not be surprised if you find one or two of these players on your favorite team.

2011 NFL Draft Grades: Did the Denver Broncos Hit a Home Run in Rounds 2 and 3?

Here is a quick recap of the players taken by the Broncos in the 2nd and 3rd round:

Round 2: Pick no. 45, Rahim Moore, Safety (UCLA). Pick no. 46, Orlando Franklin, OG (Miami – FL).

Round 3: Pick no. 67, Nate Irving, ILB (North Carolina State).

Draft Grade: A

The Broncos receive a high grade because they were able to pull of a trade with San Francisco to move down, still land the players they wanted, and acquire extra picks in the process. The Broncos sent the no. 36 overall pick to San Francisco, and received the 45th, 108th (fourth round) and 141st (fifth round) picks.

The Broncos do not quite receive an A+ grade, despite the fact that they were able to add more picks, simply because defensive tackle remains a big question mark going into Day 3 of the draft.

In the third round the Broncos drafted Rahim Moore and Orlando Franklin, while passing on defensive tackles like Marvin Austin and Stephen Paea. In the fourth-round the Broncos selected another linebacker instead of taking defensive tackle, Kenrick Ellis.

Ellis seemed to be a good option for the Broncos, and there was speculation that the Broncos really liked him, but Denver passed in the end.

Still, it’s hard not to be very optimistic with how the Broncos faired on Day 2 of the draft. They landed the top safety in the draft, Rahim Moore, and while he is not considered an elite prospect, he is thought to be a guy who can be an immediate starter in the NFL.

The Broncos need to find at least four starters from this draft, so Moore is a wise selection. Moore is undersized, but a solid tackler, with great speed, and a very durable player. He is also a ball-hawk—he had 14 total interceptions in three years at UCLA—although he is not a Brian Dawkins-type hitter. He is also a high character guy, so the Broncos know what their getting. It’s a great selection overall.

Orlando Franklin is a massive offensive guard (6'5", 316-pound), who will most likely play right tackle for the Broncos. Franklin will likely be the guy responsible for protecting Tebow’s blind side. And he is be enough, and plays nasty enough, to hold his ground.

Coach John Fox probably appreciates his versatility, size and awesome skill. This type of pick is never the sexy-pick—it’s not like drafting a speedy running back, for instance—but the Broncos realize that tackle Ryan Harris is likely on his way out, and Franklin can really have a significant impact on the offense.

Nate Irving will likely line up in the middle of this new Broncos 4-3 defense. That would put Von Miller on the strong side, and DJ Williams on the opposite side. Irving is a big-time competitor.

He is a productive player, who is not always great in coverage, but can find his way to the opponent’s backfield and make plays. He is explosive and deceptively fast. Last season he recorded 21.5 tackles for loss. Irving, like the other Broncos draft picks, is very versatile.

But Irving is resilient. He missed the entire 2009 seasons after a car crash almost took his life, but left him with a collapsed lung and other serious injuries.

In a conference call meeting with the media following his selection, Irving had this to say to BroncoTalk about teaming up with Von Miller: “I was looking at the earlier pick, and I saw Von Miller, and I’m just looking forward to getting out there and playing alongside him. With me in the middle and him on the edge, we could wreak some havoc on every offensive team in the league.”

Sounds good to me.

Mario Haggan was considered a possible starter in the middle going into next season, but now Irving will have a good chance to beat him out for the spot. This also means that John Fox may not be as high on Joe Mays as a lot of fans are. Mays is undersized, and seemed to be a nice find going into the 2011 season, but he may be best as a backup and special teams player.

So, all in all, a very good, if not great, Day 2. These selections seem to signal to other players that they may not be Broncos in 2011: Ryan Harris, Brian Dawkins and maybe even Joe Mays. The burning question going into Day 3 will be, “What exactly is the plan for defensive tackle?”

I guess that considering all of the Broncos many needs, beggars can’t be choosers.

NFL Draft 2011: Can Rounds 2 and 3 Be as Exciting as Round 1?

Wow!

Really think back to what happened last night.  Has there ever been a first round like that before?

We had trades.  We had surprises.  We had players getting drafted way too high.  We had players falling fast and hard.

It was like watching the greatest sitcom, drama and reality TV show all rolled into one.

I almost feel bad for the second and third round.  Is there anyway that it can captivate viewers as much as the first round did?

There are a few things that could happen to make Rounds 2 and 3 just as exciting as Round 1.  Here are some of them below.

The Race for a Quarterback

Four quarterbacks were taken in the first round.  Cam Newton, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, and Christian Ponder were all drafted in the first 12 picks.  However, only Carolina (Newton), Tennessee (Locker) and Minnesota (Ponder) addressed their need for a quarterback.

That means that Buffalo, Arizona, San Francisco, Washington and Miami all still need to find a quarterback.  With only Andy Dalton, Ryan Mallett and Kevin Kaepernick as the remaining potential starters, there could be a trade frenzy to grab one.

Look for all five of these teams to attempt to move to the top of the second round to draft their potential franchise quarterback.

The Continued Slide of Da'Quan Bowers

To me, Da'Quan Bowers not getting drafted in the first round was the most shocking thing.  The guy was once talked about as a potential first overall pick.  Teams must know more about Bowers' knee than they are revealing.

When you think about the Bowers situation, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.  Even if Bowers is only in the league for five to seven years, shouldn't a team have taken that chance?  Five to seven dominant years as an elite pass rusher is extremely rare in the NFL these days.  What if Bowers' knee allows him to play 10-plus years?  Will every team in the first round be kicking themselves for passing on him?

This could be a great motivational factor for Bowers and don't be surprised if Bowers is in the running for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Whatever happens today and tomorrow, one thing we can be certain of is more excitement from the NFL draft.  It might not match the excitement from the first round, but it should keep us on the edge of our seats.

Don't you just love the NFL draft?

'Little Chefs' Is Proof That The Culinary Arts Should Be Left To The Pro's

There are a lot of cooking shows out there but very few a have child host. And why is that? Is it because of some ageist stigma in the kitchen? Actually, it's because the kitchen can be a very dangerous place for kids, what with sharp knives, whirling appliances, blistering hot ovens and all.

Of course, all that hasn't deterred Little Tommy... err, Tommy Little, who insists that 'even though the chef is Little, the flavor is HUGE!" Will this NBA season be a coronation for Miami Heat's three kings?

The arrival of LeBron James and Chris Bosh to a team already boasting Dwyane Wade has raised their championship hopes

They tempted "King" LeBron James (frequently regarded as the greatest basketball player in the world) and Chris Bosh (one of the best in the world in his position) from the bleak climbs of Cleveland and Toronto respectively to the scorching warmth of Miami, where they have joined fans favourite Dwyane Wade, who signed a six-year contract extension and is equally regarded as one of the best players in the NBA. These deals are the equivalent of having Pel, Diego Maradona and Johan Cruyff in the same side at their peak. The three were introduced to Heat fans in a typically giant American spectacle, one that seemed more suited to the last night of Glastonbury.

Unsurprisingly, great success is expected of the new-look Heat, with James and Bosh having the added incentive to triumph as they are yet to win a championship, with Wade having won only one, back in 2006. But as hope rises in Miami, expectations tumble in Cleveland where following the departure James, the home team are not expected to even reach the play-offs. The Cavaliers had been trying to build a championship-winning team around LeBron since they drafted him into the side as the No1 pick in 2003, but now there will have to be a major re-think regarding tactics and strategy. However, it is hard not to feel a degree of sympathy for James, who was understandably frustrated being regarded as the best player in the NBA but with only one play-off finals appearance to his name ? a 4-0 defeat against the San Antonio Spurs in 2007. Surely he had the right to search for glory after so many disappointing seasons in Ohio?

James's move has upset not only the people of Cleveland, but fans of teams across the league. That was evident on Tuesday night as the Heat kicked-off their season at a sold-out TD Garden in Boston, where the Celtic crowd proceeded to boo the 25-year-old every time he touched the ball. The Heat went on to lose the game 88-80.

As James said himself during pre-season, it may take until January before the team fully gels which is perhaps understandable. Therefore, the fact James and co were less than convincing in Boston is no major shock. Also, it is easy to forget the Heat were up against last season's play-off runners-up, who were only beaten by the LA Lakers in the final game of the finals.

The Celtics are in some ways the opposite to the Heat: they have experience of winning championships and a team in which each player knows his role, and it was this which proved the difference on Tuesday. Miami were particularly poor in the first half, with their "Three Kings" looking more like three peasants, managing between them just 10 turnovers in the entire game.

However, for all the mistakes and disappointments of the three men most people were watching, it is easy to forget how good the Celtics were. Their defence was solid and in Rajon Rondo the hosts had the man who created the third highest number of assists on the opening day of any NBA season.

James, though, still shone and almost brought the Heat back into the game single-handedly in the third quarter as what was a 19-point lead for the Celtics was eventually reduced to three as he went on to finish with 31 points.

The Celtics followed victory over Miami with a surprise 95-87 loss against the Cavaliers 24 hours later. But despite the defeat, Doc Rivers's men are likely to remain a force to be reckoned with throughout this season. Last season's runners-up have added to their already impressive squad with one of the biggest names in sport; the larger-than-life centre Shaquille O'Neal, who also decided to leave Cleveland. Shaq may be reaching the end of his career ? or as he calculated in his first press conference, his "final 730 days" ? but he remains a force to be reckoned with.

With the high expectations surrounding Miami and Boston it is easy to overlook other contenders in the Eastern Conference, such as the Orlando Magic, last season's conference runners-up who boast probably the best centre in the league in Dwight Howard, who, like James and Bosh, has found a championship ring elusive. Also, New York will be hoping for a big season after signing offensive powerhouse Amar'e Stoudemire, a player Knicks fans will hope can push their team into the play-offs for the first time since the 2003-04 season.

Kobe Bryant's LA Lakers, meanwhile, have returned from their excursion to London for the European tour earlier this month and as usual will be expected to lead the running in the Western Conference. They have made few acquisitions over the summer, although having won back-to-back championships they may see no need to tinker with a winning formula. Bryant's play-off success has been somewhat overshadowed by James and his summer move, although with yet another championship ring under his belt, the 32-year-old has further cemented his legacy.

There will be much interest in how Oklahoma City Thunder begin the season as much is expected of the explosive young forward Kevin Durant, whom many pundits consider to be a strong challenger for James's MVP title in the coming years. Little was expected of the Thunder at the beginning of last season yet surprisingly they flourished under the direction of Coach of the Year Scott Brooks off the court and Durant, the NBA's Scoring Champion, on it.

Interest will follow the Washington Wizards as observers caste an eye over how the No1 draft pick John Wall performs under the NBA spotlight, especially after performing well during pre-season. Gilbert Arenas also returns to the side on 27 January after serving his ban for firearms offences. Whether he is still a fan favourite is yet to be seen, but either way Wizards fans will expect a great deal from him this year.

Interest in the new NBA season is, then, enormous. Miami remain favourites to lift the play-off trophy next summer but any of the teams that reach the play-offs are likely to pose a serious threat to the Heat.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Jacksonville Jaguars Grab Blaine Gabbert at No. 10

2011 NFL Draft Results Finds Blaine Gabbert Getting Picked By the Jacksonville Jaguars at Pick No. 10

Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert was tumbling down the draft board when the Jacksonville Jaguars decided to trade up to secure their guy at pick No. 10.

They threw extra draft picks in the Redskins direction to get a guy that will push David Garrard for the starting spot in 2011.

READ MORE: NFL Draft 2011 Results, Draft Grades: Live Blogging and Grading the Picks

He completed 44-of-49 passes at his pro day and scouts on site said that three of them were drops. He has pin-point accuracy and the kind of quick release that is essential in the NFL. He threw for 6,822 yards in only 31 games for Missouri.

The issue with Gabbert is his lack of experience taking snaps under center. He almost exclusive play out of shotgun formations which is troubling for a guy that isn't oozing with athleticism.

Gabbert is the safest QB in the draft but the Jags should have been more patient. He would have likely been available at pick No. 16, which was their original pick. No QB was selected during that span and now they are without a second round pick.

I thought there were more pressing needs for the Jags and now they have angered Garrard. This could blowup in their faces pretty quickly if Gabbert struggles.

2011 NFL Draft Results: Robert Quinn goes to St. Louis at No. 14

Honestly I?m surprised that Robert Quinn fell this far down the board, but I also think that St. Louis is horribly surprised and shocked that Julio Jones was taken where he was.

It?s still baffling to me, so I can understand what they are feeling.

That being said, the Rams did the best they could right here at No. 14 and got a top ten talent in Robert Quinn.

Quinn was projected to be the best defensive end in the draft so the Rams defense is going to be vastly improved.

I did think that every single member of the St. Louis Rams organization wanted Julio Jones on their offense to play catch with Sam Bradford, but there are still some quality wide receivers for the Rams to take a shot at in the second round.

Right now they had to take the best player available, and they got a great one in Quinn.

Tribe Talk: Can the Indians Continue Their Winning Ways?

Welcome to Tribe Talk, where Bleacher Report's Cleveland Indians fans weigh-in on the ups and downs of the club each week throughout the season.

This week, we discuss whether the bad week the Indians had is a sign of things to come, what they can do to combat injuries to the rotation, and whether or not they have a true division rival.

I would like to thank this week's participant Lewie Pollis, for his contribution. This discussion is open to all, so please feel free to comment below and pitch your thoughts on the questions we're addressing this week.

Go Tribe!

1. After steamrolling the competition for the first few weeks of the season, the Indians appeared to be slowing down a bit last week. They eked out a split in Kansas City, and then dropped both games in Minnesota to the Twins. While they still had a 1.5 game lead in the Central as of Monday, it definitely appears the wheels are in danger of coming off.

How much stock do you put in the struggles the Indians had last week? Was it just a blip and nothing to be concerned about, or is it a sign of struggles to come?

How much does it concern you that they fared so poorly against, of all teams, Minnesota, a squad that has really struggled for the first month of the season and fallen far short of expectations?

Samantha Bunten: Eh, I don't see any reason to panic. I'll admit that in the midst of watching it happen, I got a little nervous that the wheels were coming off, but it didn't look so bad after the fact.

The Indians emerged from it still in first place, so I don't think there's any reason to get hysterical and start sounding like all the Yankee fans who demand to fire the manager because they're only two games up in their division in May. If the Indians fall out of first and continue to lose ground, that's when we can sound the alarm.

For now, it just looks like a bad week. In a 162-game season, everybody loses. A lot. Including the teams that wind up winning their division. No one should be saying that the Tribe is a lock to do that, but I also don't think one bad week in April is in any way a portent of doom.

Lewie Pollis: I think it's too small a sample size from which to draw conclusions. The odds of a team with a 40-percent chance of winning a game pulling off a three-game sweep are greater than the chances of rolling an 11 with two dice. These things happen.

Even with the bad stretch, the Indians now stand at 15-8—seven games over .500 and 3.5 games ahead of the Tigers and Royals for the division lead.

There are legitimate reasons to doubt the Tribe's ability to keep up their hot streak—Travis Hafner's ludicrous BABIP, Justin Masterson's great luck, Grady Sizemore's plate discipline. That the Indians had one mediocre week is not one of them.

2. The starting rotation looked fantastic two weeks into the season, but unfortunately it's now in a state of uncertainty. Mitch Talbot has been placed on the DL and it appears that Carlos Carrasco may be headed there as well. Both players are dealing with elbow issues.

Do you think either/both of these injuries will turn out to be serious and cause the pitcher(s) to miss a significant amount of time?

How confident are you that the Indians would be able to replace one pitcher without suffering much damage? What if they have to replace both pitchers?

Samantha Bunten: Every time I hear the words "elbow issue" in the same sentence as I hear the word "pitcher", I start to feel Tommy John Surgery paranoia creeping up on me. Luckily no one has said that will be the case for Talbot thus far, and certainly not for Carrasco.

That's a relief for the long-term bigger picture, but it doesn't help with the fact that we are currently at least one pitcher short of a complete rotation and possibly two short.

David Huff and Jeanmar Gomez are the most obvious candidates to act as replacements, which isn't exactly comforting. Both are probably capable of handling the occasional spot start, but I don't see either as equipped to succeed consistently if they were needed for a longer stint in the rotation.

They were both up for a spot in the rotation this Spring and obviously both failed to get it. I'm not saying that one or both of them won't eventually develop into a viable starter, but neither one of them is really a viable starter right now. Suffice it to say that if the Indians lose both Carrasco and Talbot to injury for any extended period of time, they're going to be in serious trouble.

Lewie Pollis: I don't think anyone without a medical degree is really qualified to answer that question. All I can tell you is what we've already heard—Carrasco's injury doesn't seem too serious, but Talbot could be out for a while.

As for their replacements, I'm not terribly optimistic. Jeanmar Gomez is only 23 so I wouldn't rule him out in the future, but I don't think he's really a good option at this point. David Huff's problem is that the strikeout prowess he demonstrated in the minors completely disappears when he pitches in the majors, and given his current 3.0 K/9 rate in four Triple-A starts, I'm not looking forward to seeing him back on the mound at the Prog.

But if we bring Alex White up, I would be thrilled. More than a strikeout per inning? A K/BB ratio of 5.6? He's only 22 years old? I'm salivating. I understand there are considerations of his long-term development in play, but boy would I love to see him brought up.

3. There are a lot of players on the Indians roster who have been very pleasant surprises this season. Michael Brantley completely turned it around from his disappointing 2010 season and Grady Sizemore extinguished any concerns that he would never be a productive player again when he came back a blazing success.

But perhaps the biggest surprise of all has been Travis Hafner, who writers described before the season as "done" as a home run hitter, and whose contract has been lambasted as absurdly high for years on end.

What do you think of Hafner's unbelievably hot start? Did you think he still had it in him? Do you think he'll be able to continue his stellar hitting over the long haul of the season, or is he just on a short-lived hot streak?

Samantha Bunten: Not sold. At all.

Look, we all wish Hafner would snap back to his monster power hitter days of the past so we can enjoy having a true home run hitter on our team and stop complaining about his contract. But I don't think that's how this is going to turn out.

I think it's fair to say Hafner is doing a decent job. But I think his numbers are deceptive in their indication that he's doing an exceptional job. I think he'll slow down a lot, and I think he'll do it soon.

Fortunately I don't think there's any indication that he'll revert back to the serious struggles he's had in the recent past, but I don't think we'll be calling him "excellent" at the end of the season; I think we'll be calling him "serviceable".

Lewie Pollis: I hate to play raincloud here, but there's one number on Hafner's stat sheet that really pops out: his .407 BABIP.

Now, I realize that not everyone is on board with the idea that major BABIP fluctuations are just random chance (despite the fact that it's been proven repeatedly), but consider this: no one has ever maintained a hit rate that high over a full season in my lifetime. The last time anyone finished the year with a hit rate over .400 was Jose Hernandez in 2002.

Either Travis Hafner is hitting the ball harder than any other player in the last almost-19 years—including, but not limited to, Barry Bonds, Albert Pujols, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, Ryan Howard and Prince Fielder—or he's getting lucky. You decide.

A couple days ago I calculated each Indians regular's stats and adjusted for their xBABIPs. In general, the results were good—six of the eight players I tested have actually been getting unlucky. Hafner, however, fell to .279/.326/.464. That ain't bad, but it's a far cry from .348/.395/.580.

4. Thus far in the season, Manny Acta has been praised for not only putting together a winning ballclub in general, but for many smaller things he's done specifically to make that happen.

One thing that seems to come up a lot is how much the Tribe faithful seem to appreciate his willingness to pull pitchers as soon as there are signs of trouble, something that was a frequent issue for former manager Eric Wedge, who always seemed afraid to pull the plug and caused the team to lose games because of it.

Do you think this is something that is a huge part of why Acta has been successful thus far?

What else do you think Acta is doing well that is keeping his team in first place?

Samantha Bunten: For the most part, the mark of a good manager is virtual invisibility. If a manager is doing his job well, you shouldn't be talking about him or thinking about him much. Generally speaking, what you tend to notice about what a manager does are the things he does poorly or makes mistakes on, so the less you notice him, the better.

We all talked about Eric Wedge constantly because he was always making mistakes. That made it glaringly obvious that he was doing a poor job. We don't focus on Acta much that way at all, which to me says he's doing a good job.

I think he does a good job of being a likable "player's manager" type without undermining his own authority by trying to be his players' best friend. I also think he does an excellent job of marrying small-ball style manufacturing of runs and wins with simply outmuscling the opponent when that's the better option in a given situation. But mostly, unlike Wedge, he's stayed off my radar, which to me indicates he's doing a great job.

Lewie Pollis: Frankly, I really don't think a manager makes much of an impact on his team. A bad manager can definitely hurt his team, but a good skipper doesn't really help much. Still, I love Acta because he understands that traditional, by-the-book managing isn't always the right way to go.

In an interview in 2007, he said: “It’s been proven to me that a guy at first base with no outs has a better chance to score than a guy at second base with one out. That has been proven to me with millions of at-bats. I don’t like moving guys over from first to second unless the pitcher is up or it is real late in the game." The guy knows what he's talking about.

5. Fun Question of the Week: With the AL Central standings turning out very different than expected thus far, a possible new and unexpected rivalry has been born: Cleveland vs Kansas City.

Great rivalries don't begin overnight, so it's too early to tell if this thing really has legs, but at least for the time being, do you see the Royals as the Indians' prime rival? If not, who do you consider their rival instead?

How much of the old Indians-White Sox rivalry do you think still exists? Is this a dead issue or is it merely taking a temporary backseat to a rivalry with the Royals only to be reignited at a later time?

Samantha Bunten: It's tempting to say yes, the Royals are our great and worthy opponent. Rivalries are fun. But I think we have to be careful not to bestow the title of "rival" on someone when in fact they're just someone we really want to beat.

There aren't really many true rivalries in baseball anymore. Even the Yankees-Red Sox "rivalry" is, these days, mostly just the media trying to capitalize on the draw of two big market teams or an excuse for Yankee fans to randomly attack people in Boston hats.

The Indians are no exception to the norm throughout baseball on this; they don't have a true rival, and they haven't had one for a long time. The White Sox rivalry is long dead and Kansas City isn't anything close to a real rival yet. But it sure does feel good to beat them, doesn't it?

Lewie Pollis: I don't think the Indians have a rivalry with any team. There are a few notable exceptions, but almost every baseball rivalry seems forced or manufactured. The only team I consider to be the Indians' rivals is the one suiting up against them that night.

Oh, and the Yankees. Everybody hates them.

2011 NFL Mock Draft: Philadelphia Eagles Select Clint Boling at No. 54

2011 NFL Mock Draft: Philadelphia Eagles Draft Clint Boling From Georgia

Philadelphia is going to have to continue to find ways to protect Mike Vick.

Granted it?s hard to do so when Vick is scrambling all over the place, but a solid offensive line makes a very big difference.

I think the Eagles are going to select Clint Boling with pick No. 54 in the 2011 NFL Draft.

He played tackle at Georgia, but it looks like he will be a better fit at guard in the NFL.

Either way he would be a huge addition to an Eagles team that could use some depth on the front line.

Chris Leeuw broke Boling down from the Dolphins perspective in his draft spotlight on PhinPhanatic.com

Georgia?s 6?5 310-pound Clint Boling ? a 4 year starter in the SEC ? might be a name to watch on Day 2 or 3 of the draft. He?s big, fits the mold, and has built a reputation as an incredibly smart, high character guy with tremendous inside strength.

I?ve seen Boling mocked as early as Round 2 and as late as Round 4, so there?s a chance he could be there when Miami?s on the clock in the third. If the Dolphins are looking to come away with a player that could challenge Nate Garner or John Jerry for a starting spot, waiting later than the third round will diminish their chances greatly. Most draft gurus are calling the Guard class relatively weak, and there are several scouting reports out there that seem to think Boling could be starter caliber from day one.

Looks and sounds good to me, especially at No. 54

'What If You Lived At Ikea' Is 375 Sq. Ft. Of Pre-Packaged Home

Filed under:

Living in Ikea would be a lot like living at home, except the furniture is already built so there's none of those tiny wrenches and missing screw stuff to deal with. Oh yeah, there's also the fact that they seem to think people can live totally comfortably in under 400 square feet of space with minimalist household tools. Would it work? Is it comfortable? That's the theme behind Christian Gideon's latest set of photos, "What if you lived at Ikea?"

Gideon, his brother Dylan and their buddy Michael hung out in the pre-created living space at their local Ikea, waiting for staff and customers to roll on through, picking up their Ekby Gruven and other easy-to-build furniture along the way, and snapping shots of the living situations there-in. And because you're wondering, they thought the bedrooms were the most true-to-life of every area they frollicked.

2011 NBA Playoffs: Thunder Take Game 5, Series vs. Nuggets

The Oklahoma City Thunder shot just 36% from the field in Game 5, but still eked out a 100-97 victory over the Denver Nuggets, taking the series 4-1. Kevin Durant led the way for the Thunder, scoring a game-high 41 points, including 16 of the team's final 20 to seal the victory.

While the Thunder were the aggressors down the stretch, the officiating played a major role in shifting the balance in Game 5. During the regular season, the Nuggets led the NBA in both free throws made and attempted.  Although much of those numbers included Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups, they still got to the line at about the same rate after the trade. Yet in Game 5, the Thunder shot 42 free throws to the Nuggets 21.

There is no doubt that the Thunder attacked the basket more in Game 5, but not enough to double the amount of free throw attempts for the Nuggets. The officials seemed to think that any time there was any contact on Durant, Russell Westbrook, or any other Thunder player, that a foul had to be called.

Add to that, late in the 4th quarter Kevin Durant was called for a back court violation by the official standing right at the center line of the court. Somehow, the official all the way under the Thunder basket overturned the call and the refs reviewed the play. Although the correct call was made in that Durant did not go backcourt, it seems incredible that an official halfway down the court could make that call.

That said, the referees did not decide this series; the Thunder were the better team and deserve to move on to the next round. Here are the reasons the Nuggets are going home after round one for the seventh time in eight years.

1.     Poor Play in Crunch Time

The Nuggets had several chances in games 1, 3, and 5 to close out Oklahoma City in the 4th quarter, but they could never tighten the clamps on the defensive end or hit big shots to increase the lead. In all three of those games, the Nuggets had a lead in the fourth quarter but consistently allowed the Thunder back into the game with untimely fouls, poor defense, or lack of offensive execution.

2.    Poor Free Throw Shooting

For a team that got to the line so often in the regular season (and in Games 1-4 of this series), the Nuggets had several opportunities to get easy points but failed to do so. Denver for the series shot under 70% from the charity stripe. But it was not only the big men, such as Nene and Kenyon Martin, who continued to brick foul shots. Even normally reliable free throw shooters such as Danilo Gallinari, J.R. Smith and Raymond Felton struggled as well. Maybe it was the pressure, or maybe it was because it was the first playoff experience for several players, but in the postseason you have to cash in at the line.

3.    Inability to Control the Thunder Bench

This is the biggest and possibly most overlooked aspect of the series.  Every game at the start of the second quarter, Thunder coach Scott Brooks would take out BOTH Russell Westbrook AND Kevin Durant.  With these two players accounting for more than half the Thunder offense it would seem like the Nuggets would have a field day, especially since the Denver bench is so deep.  Unfortunately for the Nuggets, whose lineup often contained some combination of starters and Felton, Smith, Wilson Chandler, Al Harrington or Chris "Birdman" Andersen, they were unable to contain the likes of Eric Maynor, James Harden, Nick Collison and Daequan Cook. Collison routinely dominated the boards, and Maynor, Harden and Cook knocked down clutch threees.

4.   Rebounding

The Thunder out-rebounded the Nuggets in every game, especially capitalizing on the offensive glass. Kendrick Perkins and Serge Ibaka had their way with Martin and Nene, and the young, athletic Thunder proved too much for the Nuggets.  If the Nuggets want to compete in the postseason in the next few years rebounding is a priority.

The Nuggets can try to blame their numerous injuries for the loss. Although only Arron Afflalo missed time in this series (games 1 and 2), several players including Felton, Lawson and Gallinari, played through pain. The Nuggets can now use this off-season to recover physically, gel as a team, and figure out their plan for the future. With so many solid pieces, loads of cap space, and several draft picks, the Nuggets are using Thunder GM Sam Presti's formula to try and rise to the top of the west.

NBA playoffs: New York Knicks back in the mix after major rebuilding | David Lengel

The most infamous NBA franchise are where they used to belong but the might of the Celtics stand in their way

On Sunday the New York Knicks will play the Boston Celtics in the first round of the NBA playoffs ? New York's first appearance in the post-season since 2004. On the court for the Knickerbockers will be two bona fide NBA superstars, Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony, in the prime of their careers, a scenario that was the stuff of fantasy a year ago. For these Knicks, this post-season series is their signature on a season that marks their return to relevance in New York and the NBA.

Ten years ago the Toronto Raptors bounced the Knicks from the opening round of the playoffs, and fans consoling themselves inside Madison Square Garden, known here as the World's Most Famous Arena, sensed that the times were indeed a-changing. Still, those diehards couldn't have possibly known what was about to hit them ? over the next decade, the building on 34th street would house the most infamous franchise the NBA had to offer.

In a league where oligarchs can't write blank checks at will, and where payrolls are kept in line with revenues via a salary cap, missteps by men in suits managing those spending restrictions can cripple a team's ability to rebuild for years. Until this season, this has been the long-running theme of pro basketball in New York City.

The problems with the Knicks and the salary cap management pre-dated Isaiah Thomas, the former general manager, probably one of the most disliked characters in Knicks history. The team owner, James Dolan, hired Thomas in December of 2003, and almost immediately upon his arrival, the Hall of Fame point guard exacerbated the Knicks already difficult salary cap situation.

New York slipped further and further into NBA purgatory as Thomas dealt for high priced, low return players such as Stephon Marbury and Eddie Curry. Unable to dig out from the mountain of bad contracts, the Knicks couldn't dream of bidding for top free agent talent, and New York, wearing skintight salary cap shackles, had sadly become irrelevant ? unthinkable in a city known for passionate support of its basketball team.

Thomas became head coach for two seasons, and in 2008 was let go. Donnie Walsh, a Bronx boy in exile, who had managed the Indiana Pacers to 16 post-seasons, was brought in to shake up the team. The mission ? forget about winning for the time being, and dump the salary duds in time to make cap space to compete for the free agent class of 2010, a group that included the best player in the world, LeBron James. In two short years, Walsh was able to accomplish what no Knick executive had done, clear the deck.

The dream of landing James was just that, as he nixed New York to join his buddies in Miami. The consolation prize was Stoudemire, a player viewed with suspicion by Knicks fans, but who, early in 2010, proved that New York had their first true franchise player since Patrick Ewing. Young and athletic talent surrounded Stoudemire, making the most of the head coach Mike D'Antoni's high-octane offensive style, lifting the toxic clouds off of the Garden.

In late February came the fruition of a long-rumoured deal in the form of a three-way exchange with Denver and Minnesota, bringing Anthony, without a doubt, one of the top five players in the NBA, to New York along with proven point guard Chauncey Billups. The Knicks got a second franchise player in their bid to keep up with the Joneses in Miami, but relinquished several talented players in a trade that some believed was unnecessary ? Anthony, a player with strong links to NYC could have come to the Knicks as a free agent after the season without New York dealing any of their young guns.

New York has struggled since the trade, having to come together as a team quickly with a rebuilt roster, just in time for the playoffs. The trade for Anthony is seen as part of a long-term plan, but questions linger about chemistry between Stoudemire and Anthony, and whether the Knicks can acquire the missing pieces to propel New York to their first title since 1973. For now, the Knicks will have at least two post-season games in New York, and that long-sought opportunity to breathe playoff life back into the Garden.

EASTERN CONFERENCE PLAYOFF PREVIEW

Boston Celtics v New York Knicks

Boston come into these playoffs knowing their window of opportunity for a second championship in four seasons is closing ? the dynamic core of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen are slightly vulnerable in their old age. Plus, their center Kendrick Perkins was controversially dealt away at the trade deadline, upsetting the head coach, Doc Rivers, some former team-mates, and the applecart. There are other issues with Boston, such as the health of Shaquille O'Neal. Still, they should crush the undersized Knicks whose time is yet to arrive. Celts in five.

Chicago Bulls v Indiana Pacers

Derrick Rose will be the NBA's Most Valuable Player, and if that doesn't give you confidence in Chicago, the Bulls owner, Jerry Reinsdorf, will. He said in early March that his team can win four championships. Not one, four. Chicago does play smothering defense, which should keep the Pacers best player, Danny Granger, in check. Bulls sweep.

Miami Heat v Philadelphia 76ers

When is a 58-win season considered to be a disappointment? How about when you have three of the NBA's top 15 players, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh on the same team. Can the Sixers pull off the upset? Well, they have a better head coach in Doug Collins, an excellent point guard in Jrue Holiday, and a nice big juicy target to shoot at. Miami's out in a shocker. Sixers in seven.

Orlando Magic v Atlanta Hawks

Orlando's Dwight Howard is awesome and Atlanta is a dump. I really don't like it there, so I'm taking it out on the Hawks. Seriously folks, Atlanta will double team Howard, and the big man will kick it out to multiple Magic men to drain three's all night long. Magic in five.

WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYOFF PREVIEW

San Antonio Spurs v Memphis Grizzlies

If you would have told me before the seasons that the Spurs would win 61 games I would have said to go have another puff on ye old pipe. The clock is ticking on San Antonio but if they do go out, it ain't going to be against Memphis. For the Grizzlies, there's history to be made here ? Memphis have never won a post-season game. Spurs in five.

Los Angeles Lakers v New Orleans Hornets

Can someone tell me why Kobe Bryant hasn't been suspended for muttering anti-gay slurs at a referee? A $100K fine? Big deal ? that's like taking a buck 75 off me. You can't allow that sort of thing to go on in the NBA or anywhere. Let me see, if I go into work today and scream that at someone, I wonder what would happen? The Lakers legend Jerry West criticised the team earlier in the season saying: "The reason you 'can't play defense' is because you can't", and even the coach, Phil Jackson, agreed. It will catch up with them, but not yet. Lakers in five.

Dallas Mavericks v Portland Trailblazers

It's easy to chalk up an easy series win for Dallas. Not so. Portland has a lot of kitchen sink to throw at Dirk Nowitzki in Marcus Camby, Gerald Wallace and LaMarcus Aldridge, and this will be no walk in the Pacific Northwest for these Texans. Blazers in seven.

Oklahoma City Thunder v Denver Nuggets

Good series, a lot of fun. Contrary to expectations, the Nuggets have been excellent since Anthony was traded for half of the Knicks, and there's been lots of jabs at him from the Rockies. One question for Denver ? who will take the big shots down the stretch? Oklahoma has an easy answer ? Kevin Durant won the NBA scoring title. I like Denver here, with a bit of bias coming me from here in NY. Nuggets in seven.
