NFL Draft Rumors: What Are the Buffalo Bills Top Needs?

Buffalo Bills NFL Draft Rumors Hinge On 3rd Overall Pick

Not surprisingly the 4-12 Buffalo Bills are loaded with holes.

C.J. Spiller could turn out to be a nice player, Steve Johnson is a solid wide receiver, and Ryan Fitzpatrick played well last year....but not well enough to suggest Buffalo should pass on a quarterback on Day One or two.

Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert probably don't wind up in Buffalo, but on Day Two, they'll likely have a shot at Andy Dalton, Ryan Mallett, or Christian Ponder. Any one of those three can sit behind Fitzpatrick for a year or two and then make a major impact.

The defensive side of the ball, however, is where they'll spend most of their attention.

Expect the Bills to spend their third overall pick on either Marcell Dareus, Patrick Peterson, or Von Miller.  But that won't be a cureall for the pretty bad defense Dave Wannstedt is inheriting.

The run defense was the NFL's worst for a second straight season, and  the pass defense wasn't that much better: sure they finished 3rd overall in yards surrendered, but opponents realized they didn't need to pass when they could run the ball so effortlessly.

And if Paul Posluszny does leave town as a free agent things will only get worse. Fortunately for Wannstedt there are some pretty good linebackers on the board when they choose 68th overall. Greg Jones could fill in for Posluszny or even be a fine replacement for free agent Akin Ayodele if he doesn't come back.
