2011 NFL Draft Grades: 49ers Hardly Need Another Project in Colin Kaepernick

2011 NFL Draft Grades are in for San Francisco 49ers Draft Pick of Colin Kaepernick

2011 NFL Draft Grades are here for you 49ers fans. Let me start by saying that I am not in love with the proud 49ers organization taking a project arm in Colin Kaepernick.

This is a team that needs a quarterback as close to game ready as possible. They have a couple of arms right now that are still trying to figure out how to play the NFL game. I have no confidence in Troy Smith or Alex Smith.

This pick reeks of the 49ers looking to free agency to take a quarterback for the next couple of seasons. As it is, they can't take the field with the type of talent they have at QB. Kaepernick is a long way away from commanding an NFL style offense.

With Ryan Mallett on the board, the Niners took a guy that can't run a prototypical offense. If you think Tim Tebow had question marks, watch out. Kaepernick is a fine talent that I am confident can fit in somewhere.

I just don't think it was on this team. I worry that he will be forced out much too soon. He needs time to mature, and the 49ers don't have a reliable quarterback to allow for that.
