2011 NFL Mock Draft: Blaine Gabbert to the Arizona Cardinals at #5

Cardinals Opt for Gabbert In Draft Over Trading For Kolb Or Signing FA

One way or another the Arizona Cardinals are going to need a new quarterback by the time the season begins.

The three most realistic and talented options for the Cards are drafting Blaine Gabbert, signing free agent Marc Bulger or trading for Kevin Kolb.

If the Cardinals really want a quarterback who will be around for years to come then Marc Bulger must be eliminated from the conversation as he is getting up there in age.

That leaves either trading for Kolb or drafting a quarterback, and the Cardinals would give up a lot less with the second option.

Gabbert is a safer bet at quarterback than Cam Newton, and will fortunately have Larry Fitzgerald to help him develop. Throw in a high octane Cardinals offensive game-plan and Gabbert could have the best chance to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Now that Kurt Warner is gone and the Matt Leinart experiment failed the Cards need a new star under center, and Blaine Gabbert has the potential to be that star when they select him fifth.
