Do the Vikings have their eye on taking Jake Locker in this April's NFL Draft?
At this time one year ago, Jake Locker would have likely been looked at as being the top quarterback prospect and No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft.
Now, one year later, Locker is the No. 3 rated quarterback in this year's draft, and it is up in the air whether or not he will be a first round selection.
In my opinion, Locker is worth a first round pick, but will the Vikings take a shot at him with the 12th pick in the draft? That is yet to be seen.
Locker has a strong arm, good height and excellent speed for the quarterback position. He has an NFL ready body and possesses the experience to be able to go in and compete for a starting job in Minnesota. The one thing that scares NFL scouts away from this guy right now is his decision making.
The former Washington standout had a fantastic four-year career, but he showed some poor decision making at times and was not always consistent with his throws.
Peter Schrager of foxsports.com has Minnesota selecting Locker with the No. 12 pick in his latest NFL Mock Draft.
"Yes, he had an underwhelming senior campaign, and sure, he?s still erratic at times. But he?s got all the physical tools, he?s a leader in the locker room and he?s coming from four years as the starter and two years running Steve Sarkisian?s pro-style offense at Washington. The knocks are that he plays small and is inaccurate. With a good quarterback coach ? Craig Johnson, this could make your career ? he could flourish. Locker also looked good at his pro day on Wednesday."
While most draft experts have began to shy away at the idea of Minnesota taking Locker with it's first round pick, I wouldn't completely rule it out. If not Minnesota, he could fall to Seattle, and if the Seahawks pass up on the former Huskie, he could fall out of the first round all together.
