The 2011 Sony Ericsson Open was certainly one to write home about as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic played for over three hours, with Djokovic winning 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.  Deciding the winner of the Sony Ericsson Open was no easy feat.

We knew the final, between the hottest player in the world (24 straight) and the highest-ranked player in the world, would be a true battle.  The last time Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal met was at the BNP Paribas Open in California only a few weeks ago, with Djokovic besting Nadal 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

This was the 25th meeting between Nadal and Dokovic, with Nadal still leading the head-to-head record, 16-9.

Djokovic started off poorly, just as he did during their meeting at Indian Wells, losing the first set 4-6. He was able to bounce back in the second set with an impressive set of drop shots, overhead lobs and corner shots to bring the match to a third set. During the third, both players seemed quite tired and equaled each other out. But during the tie break, Djokovic absolutely dominated and was able to take the match.
