WWE WrestleMania 27: The Hardcore Revolution : WrestleMania Breakdown

Column #10

The grandest stage of them all is approaching quickly.  The competitors are ready and the whole world is anxiously awaiting the moment that will blow us all away this year.

There will be no Money In The Bank Ladder Match.  There will be no Shawn Michaels wrestling.  There will be no Vince McMahon, other than his obvious roles.

Yes, this years WrestleMania might seem like it is lacking, but let me assure you that the cast the WWE has for this years show will more than make up for the lack of regulars we've so become used to.

So to jump right in The Rock has come back....to WrestleMania as the guest host of the show, not to mention that John Cena's mini-him, mainly because of the purple, will be performing (That means Justin Bieber).  And with The Rock as the guest host will be a huge focus for most of the show, making up for the lack of Shawn Michaels not wrestling.

Oh did I forget to mention that Shawn will be there though, as a Hall-of-Fame inductee!  Yeah, that happened, for anyone who has been living under a rock.

The first match we will break down and look at is the Eight-Man Tag Team Match.

The Corre (Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson, and Unified Tag Team Champions Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater) vs The Big Show, Kane, Vladimir Kozlov, and Santino Marella w/Tamina

This match is pretty heated with Show and Kane being at war with The Corre, and Santino/Kozlov are definitely looking for revenge against the group that took their Tag Team Titles away.

The Corre has been out to prove that they are the most dominate and under looked Superstars in the WWE.  They have made their name off of group beatings, much like Barrett's ex-group The Nexus, except this group is about each person and not just one.  They have proved their dominance by taking out Superstars like Big Show, Kane and Santino/Kozlov.

But, Big Show, Kane and Santino/Kozlov have all come together to take on the dominant force of the Corre and show them that their bully mentality won't be taken lightly.

My prediction for this match is that though Big Show and Kane will be a dominate factor in the early goings...The Corre will eventually end up with the win.

Match two is Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio.

This match is probably the second most heated match of the night right after Cole vs Lawler.  It all began when Rey Mysterio broke Cody's nose during a 619 with an exposed knee brace that Cody had exposed.  Since the destruction of Cody's "Dashing" looks, he has become a cut throat individual.  We knew he could strike low from his days in Legacy, with all of the beat downs he and Ted Dibiase did, but this is a new aggression.

Rey Mysterio has become his target of choice and Cody is out for revenge.  Cody, now wearing a mask to protect his broken face, is out for blood.  He has attacked Mysterio on countless occasions and has vowed to unmask him.

My prediction for this match is that it is hard to decide where this storyline will go.  Cody definitely deserves a push, but Rey might be thrown into the Title scene to continue the growth of the Latino developments in the WWE.  I think Cody Rhodes should win, but Rey Mysterio will be victorious even after Dusty Rhodes gets involved.

The third match is United States Champion Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan w/ Gail Kim.

Sheamus and his new found streak of winning has become the United States Champion at Daniel Bryan's expense.  Bryan is stuck in a rut with his girlfriend Gail Kim at war with the Bella Twins.  Bryan is stuck in the middle and Sheamus has preyed upon this taking away Bryan's gold while he has been distracted.

This rematch for the Title will be a match that really proves the extent of these two Superstars.  Bryan's Technical skills and Sheamus' brute strength will be a formidable match.

Sheamus is always one Braugh Kick away from finishing off Bryan and Bryan is always one submission move away from reclaiming his rightful Title.

My prediction for this match is that though Daniel Bryan should be more involved with the belt around his waist, Sheamus is receiving a new push and needs the United States Championship to resolidify his return to the Championship Title scene.

Match number four is John Morrison, Trish Stratus and The Jersey Shore's Snooki vs Dolph Ziggler and LayCool w/Vickie Guerrero.

Wow, I can't believe I am going to try and breakdown this match.  So this is mainly to give John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler a spotlight match at WrestleMania, push Trish Stratus and her Tough Enough show, as well as get more people to watch the WWE by branching out to Snooki (Shakes my head in disgust).

LayCool is so not down with GTL, but it seems that this match is going to be a tough call.  I'd like to say that Dolph Ziggler could win, or even that LayCool could get a win and return to the Diva's Title scene, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

My prediction...and I hope I'm not right is that Snooki will get the pin on Dolph Ziggler or a member of LayCool after either Trish or Jomo hit their finishing move. (Oh I hope I am so wrong about this match)

Match five is Randy Orton vs CM Punk!

A much heated rivalry, but this could be the match that steals the show.  Randy Orton took away CM Punk's Title by punting him in the head, back when Punk was a Face and was World Heavyweight Champion.

CM Punk has been lying and waiting for the right moment to strike and enact his revenge on Orton.  CM Punk took the opportunity to do this when he was introduced as the NEW Leader of The Nexus.

Throughout the build up to this match a stipulation was put into effect that if any member of The Nexus could pin Randy Orton they would be able to be in CM Punk's corner at WrestleMania.  Randy Orton dissected the members of The Nexus and punted each one in the head for good measure to make sure he sent a point to CM Punk and the rest of the WWE Universe, that he is a very sick individual.

CM Punk, to show how sick he is, decided to attack Randy Orton's family bus, which contained his wife and children, while Orton was wrestling.  When Orton came out to the bus, CM Punk ambushed him and took out his leg.

Orton now is injured and fell victim to yet another GTS.

My prediction is that both men are one finisher away from being beaten.  It would seem that the tides have turned and that Orton is going to be given the rub here and walk away victorious, maybe even punting CM Punk in the skull again.  I could also see CM Punk winning the match with the return of an old Nexus member, but as much as I'd love to see Punk win it will be Randy Orton.

The sixth match of the night is for the World Heavyweight Championship.  Edge w/ Christian vs Alberto Del Rio w/ Brodus Clay.

This match contains the Current World Heavyweight Champion and the Royal Rumble winner.  Right now the odds are highly against the Champion.

If you watch though the progression of this feud though, Alberto Del Rio has had Edge's number, but the return of Christian took Alberto Del Rio by surprise.  See Del Rio took out Christian months ago when Christan had to go onto the DL.

Lately there have been a lot of single and tag matches between the four of these men, building and building and building the disdain for one another.  And all the outside interference with Christian and Clay definitely make this match more unpredictable.

My prediction for this match is that Edge will be walking out of the arena very sad with Christain consoling him, setting up a future 3 way between Edge, Christian and Del Rio for the belt, while Alberto Del Rio celebrates Latino style and fulfills his destiny by becoming the NEW World Heavyweight Champion.

The seventh match of the night is the most heated match of the night.  And guess what it doesn't even involve in their prime wrestlers.  Michael Cole w/ Jack Swagger vs Jerry King Lawler w/Stone Cold Steve Austin as the Special Guest Referee.

This match is Jerry Lawler's first match at WrestleMania.  And the build for this match has been monumental with Cole inside of his Colemine, and Cole's An-Cole-Lock being applied not only to Lawler, but also JR, and most of Swagger's opponents.

Michael Cole believe himself to be the most important person in the WWE, while always clamoring that it's about the WWE Superstars.  He has been interrupting Diva's matches.  He's been belittling Lawler, by making fun of his father, having Lawler's own son come out and say he was ashamed of him, and of course talking about Lawler's recently deceased mother.

Jerry Lawler is fuming and is ready to pounce on Michael Cole.  Cole though has been training with Jack Swagger.  Bulking himself up and getting ready for the WWE Ring.

My prediction is that lots of crazy things could happen in this match.  Member's of Lawler's family could come out and help defeat Cole, or even JR himself could come down and hit the final Stunner.  Maybe though John Bradshaw Layfield will make an appearance and distract Stone Cold long enough for Cole to recieve the upper hand.  Whatever happens Jerry Lawler will be victorious, unless they decide this needs to continue on for a while.

Match number eight will be all about one thing...The Streak!  Triple H vs The Undertaker.

Everyone remembers the confrontation without words and the continued build up of how no one can beat The Streak.

This match will have lots of bad blood.  Triple H is out for revenge for Shawn Michael, who the Undertaker retired, out to prove that The Undertaker's time has come, and to show the world that he and not The Undertaker is the biggest dog of them all.

On the other hand The Undertaker is trying to prove that Triple H will be number 19, and not number one, the one, as in 18 and 1.  Taker has broken the confidence of the game by belittling Shawn Michaels on WWE Raw.

This match will be a good match with it's No Holds Barred stipulation, meaning crazy, crazy things could happen.  Could Shawn Michael's get involved?  Will anyone from The Undertaker's past come back to haunt him?  WIll Triple H realize that he is going to have to die trying to end The Streak?

My prediction is that The Undertaker will stay undefeated at WrestleMania and advance to 19-0.

And Finally the main event of WrestleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeMannnniiiiiiaaaaa (as The Rock would say).  The WWE Champion The Miz vs John Cena.

The biggest question of this match is not when, but how will The Rock interfere with this match.  Will it be physical, psychological, or will be deem himself a competitor?  Who knows?

The Miz has changed "Miztory" and made the horrible spinner belt even worse by making the W into a M.  We now live in the MME Universe. (That's the best idea they could come up with...at least Edge put his symbol as the spinner)

And John Cena is the #1 Contender, he is undefeated at WrestleMania and has never lost his Title to the Miz.

Will the WWE crush the Miz's run as Champion to let the face of their company and his 30 make-a-wish kids happy?  Or will the WWE realize what is best for the product and that is to keep The Miz Champion for just a little longer?

My prediction for this match is that though John Cena has never lost at WrestleMania, The Rock will become involved as well as Alex Riley and The Miz will retain his Championship.  Will this be by DQ, maybe, but The Miz will walk out of Atlanta Georgia STILL The WWE Champion!
(But seriously the WWE is going to screw the pooch and give it to Cena :-(.....yeah it's sucky.)

So enjoy WrestleMania, argue whatever you think I have wrong and remember Let the Revolution be known and Long Live The Extreme.
